The Flood
3113 BCE

The great Deluge that swept over considerable parts of the Mesopotamian lowlands in the second half of the 4th millennium BCE.

It is pretty difficult to pinpoint the date of the Flood but there are actually some hints to follow. The Flood is mentioned in almost all traditions around the Mesopotamian region, so it was surely a real event. By comparing all the sources a date sometime between 3100 BCE and 3500 BCE can be assumed.
The Mayan calendar starts in the year 3113 BCE with a great deluge in the Mesoamerican region, following a major volcanic eruption in the Aleutian Isles.
It is very propable that this event had consequences of a global scale, such as severe floodings in lowlying terrains. And the date would fit very neatly into the overall picture of Mesopotamian history in that era.
