Artapanus

Author of Peri Ioudaion.

Artapanus was a Jewish historian living in the late third century BCE. His family seems to have originated from Persia but he lived and worked in Egypt 2nd century BCE. Although none of his works have survived he is cited by later authors such as Eusebius of Caesaraea and Clement of Alexandria. Artapanus informs us about the circumstances of Moses' upbringing and subsequent dealings as a member of the Egyptian royal family of pharaoh Kenephręs (Khaneferre Sobekhotep 4).
